Weather Patterns

Look outside. Is it sunny? Rainy? Windy? Snowy? That is the WEATHER today. Weather changes every day — but if you watch carefully, you start to see PATTERNS. Today you become a weather scientist.

The 4 Kinds of Weather

Every day the weather is some mix of:\n\n- **TEMPERATURE** — hot, warm, cool, or cold\n- **SKY** — sunny, cloudy, or partly cloudy\n- **WATER** — rain, snow, hail, or none\n- **WIND** — still, breezy, or windy\n\nA weather scientist checks all 4 every day.

Seasons Have Patterns

Weather follows BIG patterns called SEASONS:\n\n- **SPRING** — mild, often rainy, flowers grow\n- **SUMMER** — hot, often sunny, lots of daylight\n- **FALL** — cooler, leaves change colors, more wind\n- **WINTER** — cold, snow in many places, shorter days\n\nEach season brings different weather — but the pattern REPEATS every year.

Which season is usually HOTTEST?

Why Weather Matters

Knowing the weather helps us:\n\n- Dress correctly (coat in winter, sunhat in summer)\n- Plan our day (picnic when sunny, inside games when rainy)\n- Stay SAFE (lightning, tornadoes, blizzards are dangerous)\n- Farmers know when to plant and harvest\n- Pilots and sailors know when to travel\n\nWeather forecasters help millions of people every day.

How to Make a Weather Chart

You can be a weather scientist:\n\n1. Each day, look outside at the same time.\n2. Draw a sun, cloud, rain, or snow symbol.\n3. Write if it is HOT, WARM, COOL, or COLD.\n4. Note if it is WINDY or STILL.\n5. Do this for 2 weeks. What pattern do you see?

What SEASON has falling leaves and cooler days?

🎯

Make a Weather Chart

Take a big paper and make 7 boxes for one week.\n\nEvery day:\n1. Draw a picture of the weather\n2. Write the temperature word (hot/warm/cool/cold)\n3. Note rain, snow, or wind\n\nAt the end of the week, look at your chart. Were any days the same? Different?

🎯

Dress for the Weather

With a family member:\n\n1. One person picks a type of weather and describes it\n2. The other person picks clothes from their room that fit\n3. Switch roles\n4. Try: sunny summer day, snowy winter day, rainy spring day, windy fall day\n5. Dressing right keeps you HAPPY and SAFE.
