Weather Today
WEATHER is what the atmosphere is doing right now and in the next few days. To describe today's weather you need just a few key observations: TEMPERATURE (hot, warm, cool, cold), SKY (clear, partly cloudy, overcast), PRECIPITATION (none, rain, snow, sleet, hail), WIND (calm, breezy, windy, gusty). Together these paint the day's picture.
Reading the sky. WHITE PUFFY CLOUDS = fair weather. THIN HIGH CLOUDS = changing weather coming. DARK GRAY LOW CLOUDS = rain likely. TOWERING THUNDERHEADS = storms possible. NO clouds = sunny. The cloud TYPE often predicts the weather better than just temperature does.
You wake up to thick dark gray clouds covering the sky and the air feels heavy. What weather is most likely coming?
Daily weather affects daily life. Farmers plan planting and harvest around forecasts. Pilots check conditions before flights. Construction workers know when concrete can pour. School outdoor activities, sports games, traveling — all depend on weather. Even your clothing decisions are weather-driven. Becoming weather-aware is a useful life skill.
Weather Diary
For 7 days, record at the same time each day: temperature, sky condition, precipitation, wind, and how it FELT. By the end of the week, look back. What patterns do you notice?
Weather watching is one of humanity's oldest hobbies. Every farmer, fisher, sailor, and outdoor worker for thousands of years has watched the sky. You can too — and the more you watch, the better you read it.
