The Baker Counts and Measures
A baker making cookies needs exactly 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of sugar, and 2 eggs -- too much or too little changes how the cookies turn out. Bakers also count: if a recipe makes 12 cookies but you need 24, you have to double every single ingredient. That's math happening in a kitchen!
The Builder Measures and Uses Shapes
Builders use tape measures to make sure a door is exactly the right size to fit its frame. They also work with shapes -- a roof is often a triangle shape because triangles are strong and let rain slide off. If a builder's measurements are wrong by even a little, doors won't close and roofs might leak.
The Astronaut Counts Down and Tracks Time
Astronauts count down before launch (10, 9, 8...) so every team member knows exactly when the rocket will fire. They also track time in space very carefully, because running out of oxygen or fuel at the wrong moment is dangerous. Math helps keep astronauts safe.
Doctors count a patient's heartbeat per minute. Bus drivers track how many stops are left. Grocery store workers count change. Once you start looking, math is part of almost every job.

Be a Math Worker for a Day
Pick one job from the lesson (baker, builder, or astronaut) and do a real matching task: if baker, measure out 1 cup of any dry ingredient using a measuring cup; if builder, measure the length of your bedroom door with a ruler or tape measure; if astronaut, count down out loud from 10 to 1 three times without skipping a number. Draw a picture of yourself doing the job and write one sentence about the math you used.
