Patterns Everywhere
A PATTERN is something that REPEATS in a predictable way. Patterns are everywhere — in nature, in math, in words, in music, in our days. Spotting patterns is one of the first and most important LOGIC skills. When you see a pattern, you can predict what comes next. That is real thinking power.
Where to find patterns. NUMBERS: 2, 4, 6, 8, ... (counting by 2). SHAPES: circle, square, circle, square. COLORS: red, blue, red, blue. NATURE: sunrise every morning, seasons every year. ACTIONS: brushing teeth at the same times each day. WORDS: many words ending the same way (-ing, -ed). The more patterns you spot, the more sense the world makes.
Look at this pattern: 5, 10, 15, 20, ___. What number comes next?
Patterns also help us LEARN faster. Once you know that "ed" at the end of a verb usually means past tense (walk → walked), you can read hundreds of new past-tense verbs without memorizing each. That is the power of pattern recognition. Computers do this too — image-recognition AI is essentially a pattern-spotter.
Pattern Hunt
Find 5 patterns around you today. Examples: stripes on clothes, days of the week, traffic light colors, calendar layout, a song's rhythm. For each, describe the rule.
Pattern recognition is the heart of intelligence — biological and artificial. The more you practice, the sharper your thinking gets — in math, in language, in life.
