Zipping My Jacket

Putting on your jacket and zipping it up is a great big-kid skill. The tricky part is the zipper. Zippers have two sides that need to LINE UP at the bottom before you can pull the slider up.

Steps. (1) Hold the bottom of your jacket with both hands. (2) Find the LITTLE TAB at the bottom of one side and the SLIDER on the other side. (3) Push the tab into the slot in the slider — push hard until you hear a click. (4) Now pull the slider up to your chin! If the zipper gets stuck, gently wiggle it. Don't force it.

Your zipper is stuck halfway up. What should you do?

Tip: starting the zipper at the bottom is the hardest part for kids. If you can't get it to click, ask a grown-up to help you START IT. Once it's started, you can usually pull it up by yourself. Soon you'll get the start too!

🎯

Zip It Up

Practice zipping your jacket every day. First, just practice starting the zipper. Then practice pulling it up. By the end of the week, see if you can do the whole thing yourself!

Zipping your own jacket means you can get ready faster — and you don't need help to go outside. Independence feels great!
