Counting by 10s Dimes
A dime is a small silver coin worth 10 cents. When you have dimes, you can count them super fast by saying 10, 20, 30, 40, 50. Each dime you add means ten more cents. One dime is 10 cents, two dimes is 20 cents, three dimes is 30 cents. Counting by 10s is one of the quickest ways to count money.
The Core Idea
Counting by 10s means you add ten every single time. Start at 10 and keep adding 10: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100. Every number ends in 0. Because each dime is worth 10 cents, counting dimes is the same thing as counting by 10s. This is much faster than counting every penny one at a time.
Examples
Imagine three dimes in your hand. Touch each one and say 10, 20, 30. That is 30 cents! Five dimes? 10, 20, 30, 40, 50. That is 50 cents, or half a dollar. Ten dimes? 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100. That is 100 cents, which makes 1 whole dollar.
