Meet the Movie Team

The director is like the team captain — they decide how the story looks and feels, and tell everyone else what to do. Actors are the people who pretend to be the characters, saying the lines and showing the feelings. The camera crew decides where the camera stands and how it moves to capture every scene.

The Storyboard: A Comic Strip for a Movie

Long before a camera turns on, artists draw a storyboard — a row of simple pictures that show every scene in order, like a comic strip. This helps the whole team agree on what the movie will look like before spending money to actually film it.

Fun Fact

The word 'storyboard' was invented at the Walt Disney Studios in the 1930s, when animators started pinning drawings to a board to plan out cartoons scene by scene.

Lights, Camera, Action!

'Action!' is what a director shouts to start filming a scene, and 'Cut!' is what they shout to stop it. In between those two words, the actors perform, the camera rolls, and the crew stays completely silent so the microphones only pick up the movie's sounds.
