Being Honest
HONESTY means telling the TRUTH — even when it's hard, even when you might get in trouble, even when a lie would be easier. Honest people are TRUSTED. Untrusted people lose friends, jobs, and respect. Honesty is one of the most important traits a person can build.
When honesty is hard. (1) When you made a mistake — telling the truth means accepting consequences. (2) When the truth might HURT someone — you can be HONEST AND KIND ("I didn't love the movie, but thanks for taking me!"). (3) When everyone is lying around you — being honest stands out, but in a good way. The bravest moments often involve choosing truth.
You broke a vase by accident. Mom asks who did it. What's the BRAVE thing?
Honesty has limits. You don't need to share EVERY thought (some are private). You can be DIPLOMATIC ("a different choice would have worked better" instead of "you're terrible"). You can keep SECRETS that aren't yours to tell. Honesty doesn't mean rude. The goal: don't DECEIVE people about things they need to know.
Honesty Reflect
Think of a time you weren't fully honest. (We've all been there.) What were you afraid of? What happened? Now think of a time you WERE honest when it was hard. What happened then? Notice how you felt afterward.
Honesty builds trust. Trust builds relationships. Relationships build a good life. Choose truth, even when scary — and the person you become will thank you.
