Listening with Your Whole Body

Real listening is more than hearing words. It uses your WHOLE BODY. Your eyes (looking at the speaker). Your ears (catching the words). Your body (turned toward them, still). Your face (showing you're paying attention). And most of all, your MIND — actually thinking about what they're saying instead of planning what you'll say next.

Whole-body listening checklist. EYES on the speaker. EARS open. MOUTH closed (don't interrupt). HANDS still (no fidgeting with phone or toys). BODY turned toward them. BRAIN focused on their words and feelings. When you do all of these, the speaker FEELS heard — and that builds trust like nothing else.

Your friend is telling you about something important. Which response shows whole-body listening?

Why does it matter? People can TELL when you're really listening vs faking it. Real listeners get trusted with secrets, asked for advice, and chosen as friends. Half-listening makes people feel small. Full listening is one of the most generous things you can give someone — and it costs nothing.

🎯

Listen Today

In your next conversation, do whole-body listening for the entire time. Notice how it feels. Does the other person seem more engaged? Did you understand them better than usual?

Listening is a superpower. Most people don't do it well. The few who do — get listened to in return.
