Introduction to Multiplication
Multiplication is a fast way to add equal groups!
Core Concept
When you have 3 groups of 4, instead of adding 4+4+4, you multiply: 3x4=12. The x sign means TIMES or GROUPS OF. Multiplication is REPEATED ADDITION. An ARRAY shows multiplication visually โ 3 rows of 4 dots = 3x4=12 dots total. Like addition, order does not matter: 3x4=4x3. This is the commutative property of multiplication. Start memorizing basic facts!
Examples
2x5=10 (two groups of five). 4x3=12. 5x5=25. 1x anything = that number. 0x anything = 0.
What is 3x4?
Going Deeper
Draw arrays to visualize multiplication. Rows times columns equals total.
Array Art
Draw arrays for 2x3, 4x5, and 3x3 using dots. Write the multiplication sentence under each.
Multiplication War
Flip 2 cards each. Multiply them. Higher product wins the round!
