Build a Cardboard Robot

Design a robot and plan its senses, movements, and brain.

Your mission

Design and build a cardboard robot, then plan how it would sense the world, move, and think.

What you'll need

  • Cardboard, tape, and craft supplies
  • Bottle caps, foil, or buttons for “sensors”
  • Paper for planning

Your step-by-step plan

  1. Give it a job

Decide what your robot does — a helper, an explorer, a pet.

  2. Build the body

Construct your robot from cardboard and craft materials.

  3. Add sensors

Add parts for sensing — eyes, ears, feelers — and label what each one senses.

  4. Plan its brain

Write what your robot would do when each sensor notices something.

Make it yours

  • Add a moving part like an arm or a wheel.
  • Draw the path your robot would take through a room.

How you'll know you succeeded

  • The robot has a clear job.
  • Each sensor is labelled with what it senses.
  • You planned how it reacts to its sensors.
