An AI Research Brief

Research a real AI topic and write a clear, sourced brief.

Your mission

Investigate one real AI question, weigh the evidence, and produce a concise research brief a non-expert could understand.

What you'll need

  • A computer with internet
  • At least four credible sources
  • A document or slide tool

Your step-by-step plan

  1. Pick a question

Choose a specific, answerable AI question, such as “How do recommendation systems decide what to show?”

  2. Research widely

Read at least four credible sources, taking structured notes and recording each source.

  3. Find the tension

Identify where sources disagree or where the evidence is genuinely uncertain.

  4. Write the brief

Produce a one-page brief: the question, what is known, what is uncertain, and your assessment — with citations.

Make it yours

  • Add a short section on what you would research next.
  • Present your brief to someone and answer their questions.

How you'll know you succeeded

  • The brief answers a specific question with cited evidence.
  • It honestly notes what is uncertain.
  • A non-expert can follow it.
