How does it actually work?
AI sovereignty is the degree to which you — not a provider — control the AI you depend on. It is not one switch but a stack of layers: the model, the hardware it runs on, where your data lives, whether you can see inside it, and what survives if the provider vanishes.
There is a genuine trade-off. Renting from a big provider is easy, cheap, and powerful; owning your stack takes skill and upkeep. The goal is not to be sovereign at every layer no matter what — it is to choose each layer deliberately, knowing exactly where your independence ends and someone else's control begins.
