What Does Safe Mean?
Before school, you probably put on your seatbelt in the car. Before you ride your bike, you snap on your helmet. Before you cross the street, you look both ways. Those little habits are called being safe. And being safe is not scary — it is actually one of the most friendly and normal things in the world!
Safety Is All Around You
Safety just means taking care of yourself so you can keep having fun and keep doing the things you love. Think about all the safe things you already do without even thinking: You wear shoes outside so you do not hurt your feet. You wash your hands before eating so you do not get sick. You hold a grown-up's hand near a busy road. You wear sunscreen on a sunny day at the pool. None of those things stop you from having fun. They actually help you have MORE fun, because you are not worried about getting hurt!
Being safe means making small, smart choices that protect you — so you can keep doing the things you enjoy.
Now here is something exciting: you can use AI — a special kind of computer helper — to do lots of amazing things, like ask questions, get help with stories, or explore ideas. And just like riding a bike, using AI safely just takes a few simple habits. These habits are not hard or scary. They are just tiny choices, like putting on a helmet before you ride. This whole module is about those habits. By the end, you will feel like a real AI safety expert!

Safe Choices Are Easy Choices
Here is the most important thing to know: safe choices do not have to be hard. Imagine your friend Zara is about to go swimming. She jumps in right away without checking if a grown-up is watching. Then her friend Leo checks first, sees a lifeguard is there, and then jumps in too. Both kids got to swim. Both kids had fun. Leo just took two extra seconds to make a safe choice. That is all it takes! Using AI safely is exactly like that. You use it, you enjoy it, you just keep a couple of small habits in mind. Easy.
You are already great at being safe in real life. Learning to be safe with AI is just adding a few more good habits to the ones you already have!

My Safety Habits List
- Think about all the safety habits you already do. On a piece of paper, draw or write five safety habits from your everyday life — for example, wearing a helmet, washing hands, or looking both ways.
- Next to each one, write one word for how it makes you feel — maybe 'protected,' 'ready,' or 'smart.'
- Share your list with a grown-up and ask them what their favorite safety habit is. Then talk together: what do you think some safety habits for using AI might look like?
