Control Room — LHC Page 1

This is the screen every CERN operator watches. You are the Engineer in Charge of the upgraded HL-LHC. Start a fill, walk it through the seven-phase cycle, hold STABLE BEAMS — or find out what a quench feels like.

Durations shown are the real machine's — about 75 minutes just to reach STABLE BEAMS. The sim compresses that to 462 sim-seconds, then runs them at your 60× speed setting.

Session totals

Why it matters

Everything on this page is the point of the HL-LHC upgrade compressed into one screen: the new Nb₃Sn triplets buy the 15 cm squeeze, the crab cavities buy back the crossing-angle loss, and leveling holds 5.0 × 10³⁴ cm⁻²s⁻¹ steady for hours instead of a brief peak. Run fill after fill and the fb⁻¹ pile up — toward the 3,000 fb⁻¹ dataset, ten times everything the original LHC collected, that physicists need to watch the Higgs boson interact with itself.

Machine parameters from CERN's published LHC Design Report & HL-LHC Technical Design Report. The real LHC returns June 2030 — until then, this is where you fly it.
